Rain pounded endlessly on the frail roofs of variety stores that criss crossed around the town roads. The cement sidewalks were slicked down with a heavy wash of water and puddled that danced with each drop of rain from the dark grey clouds that hung dully in the purple shaded sky. People ran for cover to their homes to escape the endless shower and trees swayed uncomfortably on a sword tip of the wind. A loud strike of thunder clapped the sky in a black lightning bolt and the rain shivered from the sound impact. The night was slowly coming upon the town, unaware as the storm raged to scare it away. The wind howled in anger a forceful rush of air blindly swept through the streets, sweeping away any umbrellas that tried to tame the wild power.
One soul roamed the roads of pavement, running with water like it was sweat that rolled down its tar skin and into the drainage pipes. The popping sound of wet paws scrunched with rain rang out into the night and seemed careless anyways. Soggy feet was not much appreciated the the individual, but it didn't mater much as her whole pelt was flattened and soaking wet from the clouds tears. Her tail drooped into the ground and sloshed through the pools of liquid.
Fragment looked up warily, and a flash of success flickered in her eyes. The meat shop. Just what she wanted. Warily crossing the road, the pavement scrapping her delicate paw pads, she raced over to the old, cracked building. She needed a meal suiting to her cat body and this was just the place. She crouched along the rows of fresh bread and jams until the distinct scent of meat drifted to her nostrils. She gave a faint meow of appreciation the pelted down the isle. Looking up, rows and rows of red meat hung or sat on counters covered with sweets and dried fruit. She tilted her ears forward until she was sure the owner wasn't there, then leaped gracefully on top of the counter.
Her paws slick with rain scrabbled to keep a grip on the wooden counter, leaving drips of water. Finally, getting a good grip, she cautiously padded over to the meat section. A roast chicken caught her eye at the end of the rows of beef and pork. Making her way across to it, she nibbled on pieces of black forest ham, salami, kabobs, and pepperets. When she reached it, she dug in her fangs and felt the tender meat give way. Just in time. She heard a holler and snapped her head around to see the fuming shop keeper, butcher knifes in her hand. Scrabbling terrified on the marble meat keeper, she dashed as fast as her legs could handle. Faintly aware as the knives stabbed the ground around her. One knife brushed her fur just as she jumped from the shop.
The owner rushed to the door and howled;"And stay out!" Then slammed the glass door shut with a thump. Fragment muttered a bit under her breath then made her way out to a small town square with trees and marble fountains. Glancing briefly at the work she noticed one with a winged cat soaring above water. A ghost of a smile past her lips and she pelted across the clearing to a grove beside a closed shop wall. Then she snuggled herself in and gnawed hungrily at a chicken leg, the pounding of rain soothingly stroking her ears.

Lightning had watched as a strange cat had come into the shop and ate most of the meat on the counter. It had provided a perfect distraction for her to sneak out with a few loaves of bread and some other bits of food she had stolen. She spotted the cat again, and this time the cat was by a fountain. Lightning walked over and sat down beside the cat. What's your name? She asked in her eerilly emotionless voice. She could tell the cat was a mutant, no ordinary cat would dare enter the meat shop.

The wind accompanied the rain as together, they ripped at the shingles lined neatly row on row, on top of the houses roofs. The rain splattered at each hit and the wind howled again, rattling the windows of a old, cracked up house which stood stiffly, and grealy beside the meat shop. A few shingles were swept of and down onto the road, where a car sped by, spraying up a wave of water from a puddle that crashed against a sapling tree, growing beside the road. The tree swayed back flimsily, then swang forward again like a metronome. Loose litter leaped in the wind and flung itself across the sky, landing on patches of grass and pavement, cracked with age.
Fragment looked up in surprise at the person who peered under the grove in the marble at her. She hadn't expected anyone to be walking the streets in this kind of weather, but again, she had been. Her face was froze in shock as the person asked her name. She knew that this cat wasn't a normal alley cat, wandering the street in looks for a easy meal. She knew that Fragment was a mutator. A dribble of hot sauce slid down her chin, matting her fur like glue because of it's sticky texture. Her mouth was paused in mid bite and she quickly gulped down the flesh that sat lazily on her small pink tongue. A flash of lightning in a distant parking lot reflected on the puddles and danced upon her long, white pointed fangs which were exposed when her mouth gaped open. She swallowed guilty as she glanced down at the chicken. This person might of been a shop keeper, looking to take back the meal which she had stole.
Fragment shivered and her eyes spread open wide with fear that this individual might take her to the pound, where they would lock her up and feed her crumbled pieces of kitty food with stale, bitter water. And she would sit in hard, cold metal mesh cage, with the wires that twined it together slicing in between her toes and catching on her claws. the thought worried her and in self-defense, she hisses and drew back into the shadows, where only her glowing eyes and faint outline could be seen.
Then she realized it. If this person knew she was a mutator, she must not be going to sweep her away to the pound or take back the already cooling chicken. Relaxing, the faint peach with orange striped cat nodded slowly. Drawing a deep breathe, she slowly allowed herself to tell the stranger her name, the name that Lightning wanted to know. "My name is Fragment,"the cat mewed in a melodic tone. "And what, may I ask, Is your name?"

Lightning. The girl said in her eerily (sp?) emotionless tone. Her hand went instinctively to her Sakabato, which hung from her hakama by a cord on her left hip. Lightning narrowed her eyes, looking at the cat through only one of them, for in her left eye she had been robbed of her sight as a child, by her own mentor. She gazed at the cat, then asked, What are you doing in the city? You look like you're with the Fifty.
//A hakama is Japanese pants...if you've ever watched anime/read manga that's supposed to be older its what the guys wear...kind of hard to explain what they look like...go read Rurouni Kenshin...the main character (Kenshin, obviously) wears a gi (shirt) and hakama...that's what Lightning wears (except her outfit is all black..not white and pink like Kenshin's (lol...a guy in pink)//

Leaves skittered around the streets, torn from the tree's from the wind. The puddled rippled with each drop of water that splashed upon the surface. The aged sidewalks had leaves and twigs flattened against them like stickers. Rain raced down rooftops and plastic store covers. The market was closed because not enough coverage protected it from the clouds tears. The wind had ripped through the small set ups like a sword through flesh. A few of the blanket coverers had been ripped of the stands and flapped around on the road like beached fish. A shutter in a nearby window flapped around like a fly wing, then broke loose and smashed into a thousand splinters on the asphalt road. The wind picked up, then dropped rapidly, like a giant breathing in and out....in and out. Tree branches creaked and the sound of a whole tree breaking over shattered the rhythm rhyme of the rain pounding against the ground like a thousand needles. The sound of brick cracking echoed through the streets as the tree landed with a thump on the corner of a house. The thick wood hammered the brick wall like nothing and sleek water slicked of the leaves like sweat.
Fragment glowered at the emotionless Lightning, posed to grab her sword. Her claws itched to unsheath and rip through the skin and into the veins of her prey. To feel the glory of a battle which had been won. To be successful..... Her tail end twisted round and flicked at every sound that was increased in volume by her sensitive cat ears. Her light ocean blue eyes narrowed into slits as she thought of an answer for Lightning. She would probably want a good one. Her whiskers twitched as a droplet of shimmering water fell onto it. It bent the end for a quick second, then fell downward onto her delicate paw, which lay with it's toes spread wide.
"I don't want to start anything." She answered in the same emotionless voice Lightning had used on her. " But I am not of this "Fifty"you speak of."She glanced up at her, eyes full of nothing but sight. Her voice was even and smooth. Calm and casual. She had nothing to hide, she she didn't try to cover up with emotion in her tone. She reached down with her snout and nudged the chicken with her nose. It was still a bit warm, and the seasoned skin was startin to shrivel and soak up the sauce and spice which had covered up the true taste of chicken skin. The meat was cooked just right, light pink with a bit of dark flesh. Fragment looked back up at Lightning."Do you fancy poultry?" she dragged on."Have some if you wish."

I do not eat meat. Lightning said, pulling the loaf of bread she had stolen out of her sleeve and sat down. She broke off a piece of bread and ate it, watching Fragment the whole time out of the corner of her eye. You do not look like you'd be in the Murder's. You look like those goody-two-shoes that live with the Fifty. Lightning said, her voice never changing. She watched as the blanket covers blew around the street, and as a shutter crashed and splintered against the ground. The sound of the breaking wood reminded her of how bones sounded, snapping like twigs from a sappling.

Lightning looked at the girl, turning her head so she could see her. The girl had sat on her blind side, and she didn't like it when people did that.
A figure emerged from behind a nearby shop, stepping over the splintered shutter carefully. Lightnin', what is de hold up, chere? We are suppossed to be in de... The man said, but he stopped abruptly when he noticed the girl and cat, Are dese guys your friends, chere? He motioned towards the cat and girl.
I know nothing of them, Lightning said flatly, standing up.
Well you look hungry, ma'am. Here, have dis, Gambit said, holding out a packet that contained some meat he had bought a few minutes before coming to find Lightning to the girl.

[glow=teal,2,300]The girl looked up at the man and gave a small growl which was hided by the rain,"I don't take charity" she said coldly before cupping her face in her hands. She wanted to eat the meat badly, yet what would the others think of her.Plus she was a strong woman, she could take care of her self....kinda.
The girl looked up at the meat again, her stomic growled, "Erg- You can have it.FOod is something hard to get these days. You wouldn't want to waste it all on me!"[/glow]

I got plenty of money. Anyway, I couldn't let a lil' thing like you go hungry. I jus' ate. Take it, Gambit said, still holding the packet out towards her, 'sides, she won't eat none of it, and neither will her brother, He gestured to Lightning with the hand he didn't have the packet in.
Behind Gambit another wooden shutter flew off of a house and crashed to the ground, sending shards of wood flying in every direction. He looked over his shoulder and watched as the splinters were washed away by the rain and howling wind.

[glow=teal,2,300]"Fine..." the girl said taking the meat. She slowly opened the packet and started to nibble on the meat."This tast terrible" she whisperd to herself, the girl stopped nibbling on the meat to look upat the man who gave her the meat."Thank You" she said softly before looking back down at the discusting meat,it is better then nothing , she reminded herself.
The girl set the meat down next to her,she hated the sound of cracking would, snapping and breaking. It made her think of her family when the fire broke out.Only her and pops were left alive, but pops was old and he died as well a couple years later."You say you have alot of money, dose that meen you have a job?"[/glow]
