[Edward:]
I walked through the tunnels, my footsteps echoing with each step. It was quiet down here today; I hadn't seen anybody since this morning, and that had been above ground.
My stomach growled, reminding me why I had gone up into the city in the first place. Though, of course I'd forgotten to get something to eat once I'd met that girl. . . I'm so easily distracted. I sighed; I'd have to go back up later tonight.

Spine slipped through the shadows. Mace had asked him to take a quick look at the tunnels. While it was more of a loner territory, one never knew what could be going on down there. Spine didn't mind.
He paused in one particularly dirty tunnel. Footsteps were coming toward him. Only one set. Confident that if it was a Murderer, he could take care of him, he continued forward. He turned a corner and caught site of a young man.

[Edward:]
I stopped walking as a mutant walked around a corner. "Uhm, hi," I said, hoping he wouldn't attack me. I couldn't tell if he was on the Murders' side or the Fifty. . .and the fact that he was in the tunnels didn't tell me anything. Both sides (and loners) used the tunnel frequently. I thought about asking who he was, but for some reason I just kept my mouth shut and prayed he wouldn't try and kill me.

Spine nodded. "Hey." He looked the kid up and down. Didn't look much like a Murderer. Maybe just a loner. Nothing to worry about anyways. Ace was always pushing him to be more friendly, so he decided to at least give his name. "I'm Spine."

[Edward:]
"I'm Edward," I replied. It was dark in the tunnel, and I couldn't see the other guy very clearly, but he hadn't attacked, so I sort of assumed he was on the Fifty's side. Hopefully he wasn't looking to recruit the loners down here. . .I hadn't decided if I was joining a side or not. I suppose it doesn't really matter, because I wasn't a mutator, but I'd gotten offers from the Murders. It probably wouldn't be long before the Fifty started offering me 'a place to stay' too.

Spine crossed his arms. Might as well ask now. "You a loner?" No one named Edward belonged to the Murderer's as far as the Fifty knew.
((sooo short. Sorry))

(( It's fine. ^^ ))
[Edward:]
"Yes," I said, silently adding, 'And I intend to keep it that way.' I stuck my hands into my pockets, wishing I had a pair of clean jeans. Where the heck did that thought come from? Jeez, apparently I need to learn to focus on the task at hand.
I took a deep breath. "Don't offer for me to join the Fifty. I'm just fine with being a loner, and I don't have any powers, anyway. I'm useless."

Spine rolled his eyes. Why did humans always look at themselves that way? "Being a human doesn't mean anything. I've met humans that are more powerful than Mutators." Most humans looked down on themselves. Even Mace. Spine could never understand why. But then, many things about emotions and feelings confused him.

[Edward:]
I blinked. I wanted to say, 'Sure, and I've met a talking cow', but I settled on, "Well, that doesn't mean I have to join a side, now, does it?" I walked closer to him so we didn't have to shout across the tunnel; somebody would probably hear us and come to investigate or something.

"I don't care if you join a side or not." Spine shrugged. "I'm here to patrol. If you're not causeing trouble then you're not my problem."

[Edward:]
Good. Wait, patroling for what? "Patroling?" I said before I could keep my mouth closed. Why would he patrol the tunnels? It was neutral territory, wasn't it? WASN'T IT?!

Spine blinked. "Yes. Just checking on it. . ." Edward's reaction made him glance around. "Routine."

[Edward:]
Routine? So, they had people checking the tunnels, every, what, day or so? Wow, can't believe I never noticed that before. That just shows you how unobservant I am. "Ok," I said, not sure what else I could say.

Spine eyed him for a second. "Do you live down here? You haven't seen anything, have you?" Nothing ever did happen in the tunnels, but since it was netural, Mace liked someone to check every once in awhile. Things had been rather quiet the last few months. It was a good enough reason to get out of the base for awhile.

[Edward:]
"I don't live down here, but I'm down here often enough. No, I haven't seen anything other than rats for a while." Occasionally I'd meet with another person, but I rarely did. The tunnels were under the entire city, and most of the people down here preferred to stay away from the others and people that came down here from the city. Actually, come to think of it, I was like that. Huh; another thing I had never noticed. I'd been subconciously avoiding everybody else that was down here.
