Lightning was walking along the shore of the lake, thinking ((haha...big surprize there...lol)) about her friend's recent appearance. It has been so long since we've seen each other...it almost seems like a lifetime... she thought.

"What are you doing here?" Mace as he suddenly swung down from a tree, though there was no hostile tone in his voice.

"Ah, not here for the scenery?" He sat down carefully on one of the many rocks, favoring his right side.

If only I had time to enjoy the scenery...he doesn't even know how hard it is to be a murder, and he never will. She thought before saying I don't really have time to "enjoy the scenery". I'm busy...staying alive. Lightning sat in the sand, facing him. Why do I always forget his name? I remember the mace, but his name... Lightning thought //hehe...dumb moment// to herself. What is your name? She asked, hoping he wouldn't get mad. Anger...is pointless. I don't see why he gets mad. It is so easy to provoke fools like him. She thought.

"Mace." He looked out over the lake for a moment. "But my real name is Alan."

MACE?! wow...how could I not remember that. Lightning thought, then said You are lucky you know your real name. I forgot what mine was when I was blinded, because I was struck in the head.

"I'm sorry to hear that, what did happen to your eye anyways?" He knew she blamed the Fifty, but he knew no one would have done it on purpose underneath his leadership, it could have been an accident or happened under the previous leader.

I used to be in the Fifty. Up until I was 6, anyway. I don't think you were there. That was ten years ago. My teacher, curse him, did this to me. We were training, of course. He was unusually tough with me, and I knew that. So did everyone else. But his excuse was She can handle it, she's stronger than the rest of them. She is very strong, stronger than some of the warrirors. She's got potential. If I am not hard on her, she will never learn. Lightning said, then paused before continueing. It was all easy for me. I had no trouble doing what he asked of me. I was the youngest apprentice, but I was the strongest. I could easily bring down all of the others. But then, he took me out into a clearing. He said If you can't block this, you will no longer be my apprentice, and I will kill you, if the blow does not. I was just a moment late, and I caught his shoulder with my sword. But he had struck me in the head, and I fainted. He thought I was dead, I was scarcely breathing. The next thing I knew, I was being trained by the top Murder.

Mace let out a long sigh, he remember that he joined the Fifty a couple months after the incident, it was still be talked of. The man had returned and said that his apprentice had died in a training accident and he had never been given another apprentice and had eventually left the Fifty. Mace was glad to know that at least it hadn't happened under his leadership. "You know The Fifty has changed since then."

So? I vowed that I would never go back, and I never go back on my word. I may be a Murder, but that doesn't mean I don't have honor. Lightning sighed, and looked at Mace.

"Yeah, I understand that." Mace nodded slowly, "But is it not honorable to go back on one's word if it is for a greater good?"

You talk like a fortune cookie. Lightning said, then thought about it. I don't know. I guess not. Who cares?

Mace shrugged, "I don't know if any one cares. Just wanted to throw that out."

Ok then. Do you happen to know someone by the name of Phoenix? She is always late...for important things, anyway. Lightning asked, wanting to get off the subject of her past. She hated talking to people-especially those from the Fifty-about it.
