[Cujo:]
I knealt down next to the girl, slightly alarmed. "Are you all right?"

Flameflower couldn't respond. Her throat was burning.

[Cujo:]
I took a deep breath, which was probably a mistake. Instantly my throat started burning; it felt as if I had swallowed acid. I began coughing and my eyes teared up. I grabbed the girl and pulled her backwards, away from the toxic clearing.
Once we were far enough away that I no longer felt the burn in my throat when I inhaled I let go of Flameflower and dropped onto the ground, gasping for air.

Flameflower was still coughing, but it wasn't hurting as much. "They've made it so no one can follow them. Clever," She said. "What are we going to do?"

[Cujo:]
"Go around." I was on my knees, looking around. "That stuff couldn't have spread through the entire forest, or we'd probably be dead."

Flameflower looked at Cujo. She was thankful for Cujo to be there with her. She was scared, but wasn't about to show it.

[Cujo:]
I looked to the right and left, trying to decide which way was best to go. I knew almost every inch of the forest, and either way would work. . .for about a hundred and fifty yards. Going right would bring us closer to the city; left would bring us towards the lake. "Which way, left or right?"

"I have no clue. The tracks stop here," Flameflower said, looking at him.

(( I know; it's hilarious. ^^ ))
[Cujo:]
I rolled my eyes. Obviously she hadn't understood the question. "We have to go around the clearing. Which way are we going to go, towards the city or towards the lake?"

"The lake," Flameflower responded. She was trying hard to hold back the tears.

[Cujo:]
I nodded. "All right, then let's go." I led the way towards the lake, making sure I was walking in as straight of a line as I could, considering all the trees and roots that were in the way.

Flameflower followed him slowly. She was terrified. She knew that her parents would be looking for her, but she didn't care. She and Whitefire hated the Murders, and didn't want to go back.

[Cujo:]
When I figured we had gone far enough to evade the toxic gas, I turned back to Flameflower. "We should be far enough away from that stuff to get through without killing ourselves," I said as I began to head to my right.

Flameflower still followed him without saying anything. She was too deep in thought.

[Cujo:]
The silence was beginning to bother me. "You don't talk much, you know that?" I looked at the girl over my shoulder, wondering what she was thinking about so intently.
